DTE handed out free bottles of water, a charger port, flashlight and a bag of ice at different locations in Detroit, Fowlerville, Gibraltar and Monroe to those affected by power outages from this week's storms.

In an email sent to the customers, DTE says it is aware of how the outages have affected so many residents.

“We know how difficult it is to be without power, and we apologize for the inconvenience,” the statement read.

DTE community vans were stationed in the hardest-hit neighborhoods until 6 p.m. Saturday with resources for those who lost power.

Evette Griffie, DTE’s vice president of customer and community engagement, says that while linemen are still out working to restore service for customers as quickly as possible, providing these resources is a way to help right now.

“Our community vans are just one of the ways we embed ourselves into the communities we serve,” Griffie said. “We place them in our most impacted areas to provide a venue for our customers to ask questions and charge their devices.”
